Why does bottled water sometimes have that fruity taste?

PET (PETE)–Polyethylene Terephthalate–
A clear strong plastic that can leave a “faint sweet or fruity plastic flavor”. Ozonation of the water sources before
bottling can form the sweet or fruity odor by forming a series of aldehydes. Also ozone or other disinfectants can
release plastic odors from the container walls. Carbonated waters are usually bottled in PET probably because of more
stability to a lower pH product.
