A stingy man

As I was working on a lesson, I came upon this passage in Proverbs that I’d never noticed.
Proverbs 23
6 Do not eat the food of a stingy man,
do not crave his delicacies;
7 for he is the kind of man
who is always thinking about the cost.
“Eat and drink,” he says to you,
but his heart is not with you.
8 You will vomit up the little you have eaten
and will have wasted your compliments.

  1. I’ve not noticed that one before, either, Nathan. How would you know if a man is stingy-thinking, I wonder? Unless his actions or words have made it known, you might not know.

  2. I have been in this situation before, often with bosses or some other such uncomfortable environment. Never have implemented the don’t eat suggestion though, it seems kind of rude. Is the passage saying “Do not eat” or is it saying “you will have unpleasant aftereffects.”?

    When you are a guest there is also the hidden cost factoring to do. *popsy thinks: what did they order, how much was it.. what is a fair spending limit.. *
