Aspect Ratio Man saves innocent citizens from terror of incorrect aspect ratio

some random kid

The issue of aspect ratios is a lot more complex than I’d previously thought. Widescreen TVs are 1.7777:1 because it’s between 2.35:1 movies and 1.33:1 TV shows. To make it worse, throw in 1.85:1 movies and anamorphic formats and you’ll be cycling like crazy through all the formatting options on the TV. I was trying to watch a 1.85:1 disc and the zoom mode seemed to fit it exactly on the TV, which I knew couldn’t be right, so I kept pushing the format button obsessively. Vanessa loves that.
