Why do services like Google and AOL lie about IDs being taken? You painstakingly come up with a new ID that could not possibly be in use even in an alternate universe and they STILL claim that ID is already in use. Then they helpfully recommend JohnSmith1105 instead. It’s like they couldn’t possibly allow you something easy to remember. Tacking numbers on to the end is not easy to remember. Was it JohnSmith1105 or JohnSmith1150? I wonder if they’re just holding on to each first choice ID you come up with and then suggesting these lame alternates.
