Star Trek actor re-use
I’m re-watching Deep Space 9 and noticed this guy as a character. I looked him up because I know he’s been several different Star Trek characters…five, apparently. Data’s mom (Fionnula Flanagan) has played three characters. Anyway, it got me curious as to who has played the most characters in Star Trek. The Star Trek wiki mentions five actors who’ve played seven characters each; Enterprise’s Degra guy, DS9’s Brunt/Weyoun/Enterprise’s Shran guy, DS9’s General Martok guy, Enterprise’s Admiral Forest guy and DS9’s Kira’s dad guy. Honorable mention to Babylon 5’s Lyta who played many uncredited Star Trek roles and was also a stunt woman. Who knew?
Doctor in Distress
In 1985 when production of Doctor Who was suspended for a year and it looked like it might be cancelled, they produced a charity music video called Doctor in Distress. Ironically, the video was a flop and embarrassed everyone who worked on it. It probably ranks up there with the Star Wars Holiday Special in terms of Sci-Fi embarrassment.
show go away mommy
Kai is used to Netflix. He was watching a kid’s show just now on TV and this horrible interruption of other shows (commercials) happened. “Show go away ever ever.”
old Doctor Who plots
Most of the old Doctor Who episodes can be summarized as:
Through some accident, the Doctor teleports somewhere beside his intended place or time. He ends up in the middle of some bad science project or military situation. Everyone assumes he’s trying to sabotage their project or military situation. After his he and his assistants are captured and rescued several times, he finally convinces people that he knows what he’s doing and saves the day.
Throw in a lot of bad alien costumes, plodding dialog, and gravel quarries…not that any of this keeps me from watching it. 🙂
Aquabats Super Show on Netflix
The Aquabats! Super Show! is now on Netflix streaming. It’s low budget, corny, and pretty funny. (burger rain)

The Aquabats! Super Show! looks pretty amusing. Here’s a clip: Burger Rain.
Cable documentary shows…watch the last five minutes
Many documentary shows on cable are just there to string you along for an hour to get you to watch 17 minutes of commercials. One such show is The Detonators. It’s about 40 minutes of boring preparation before the building is finally demolished in the last five minutes. We had fun yesterday just watching the last 5 minutes of several episodes. They usually show the same guy in a hard hat doing a fist pump. “It blew up.” You could watch Mythbusters this way to see their best experiment in the last five minutes….but it’s not so boring that you need to.
