Games she plays

Vanessa has actually been playing a couple of PS3 games with me lately. PixelJunk Monsters and Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds.

In PixelJunk Monsters (a tower defense clone), you play a little turtle dude who runs around turning trees into defensive towers to protect your tree babies against invading panda beetles, bat moths, stringy crutch creatures, and other weird little dudes. Great cooperative strategic fun. $10 on PSN. 2D games could be making a comeback, because that’s about all you can do in 1080p resolution.

Also, there’s Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. Cartoony golf. Hit the button three times to swing. Reminds me of mini-golf a bit, I guess. Good fun, but since we only play in 2-player mode, everything remains locked. Hopefully developers start allowing you to unlock things in 2-player mode. Cooperative games seem to be really popular all of a sudden. Did it take the industry this long to realize that’s what we wanted? Or perhaps it’s just a feature that was really low on the list of priorities when the publisher is breathing down your neck to get the game out.
