PMI, PMI, PMI

Vanessa shrewdly noticed that we’ve paid just over 20% of our mortgage. This entitles us to cancel the PMI. This is an insurance premium paid by us for the benefit of our mortgage company in case we flake out on the loan. We have to pay for a $150 appraisal of the house, but it will save us thousands in the long run. Of course, when we’d paid 20% of our mortgage, the mortgage company didn’t bring it to our attention for some reason. So, if you have a mortgage, remember to figure out when you’ll reach 20% and put a reminder to cancel the PMI.
